Obligation to develop energy storage devices while increasing renewable capacity in IRAN
On September 27, 2025, Iran’s Minister of Energy, Dr. Abbas Aliabadi, addressed the 29th International Conference on Power Distribution Networks in Tehran, highlighting the nation’s efforts to overcome severe drought-related energy challenges. He emphasized Iran’s progress in diversifying its energy mix through geothermal, nuclear, hydropower, and solar sources, including the launch of the country’s first geothermal power plant.
Dr. Aliabadi underscored the need for energy storage development, greater investment in renewables, and stronger academic involvement in the power sector, while also calling for measures against illegal cryptocurrency mining and noting that increased electricity consumption, when aligned with economic growth, reflects national development.
